Every year millions make New Year’s resolutions that we fail to keep after two months of making it. Our intentions are honest and great when we make it but are they realistic? That could be the problem. Why bother to make resolutions to go to the gym when you know you have a busy schedule that you have not bothered to modify your busy schedule? You cannot be everywhere and do everything. What about resolving to cut down on your eating but as soon as your favorite meal or dessert is placed in your presence, the resolution goes out the door. Remember that co-worker or boss that you resolved that you would not allow to make you react negatively yet when they make a smart aleck comment, you are ready to go off like someone had hit you across the head?
The best thing to do is to make realistic resolutions that are doable and will not jeopardize your need to change without compromising your mission. For instance, instead of trying to lose 50 pounds by May, try instead to lose ten pounds by the end of February. This keeps it low and will help you keep your eyes on the prize. When it comes to your favorite meal or dessert, do not avoid the consumption of the food, just reduce the quantity. Eat half of whatever is on your plate, therefore, it becomes a win-win situation. You are sticking to your goal and you are eating what you love to eat. Avoid negative people who incite you. Ignore their lure to make you snap. Just smile at them, nod your head and keep it moving.
